Carpet repair

Carpet repair after flood is among the first things that people think about after their house was damaged by water. Water can affect your carpets in different ways. It is important to determine the level of damage that was made to them, in order to see if carpet repair after a flood is possible or you need to replace the carpeting in your home. Whenever possible, there are people that prefer to restore their carpets. This is also cheaper than replacing them. However, many people think they must pay someone to do the carpet repair after flood, without knowing that they can do that by themselves. This is not possible in all the situations, but sometimes it is.

The source of the water that damaged your house is very important when establishing whether your carpets can be restored. If your house was affected by rain water or a lake or river flooding, then you can think about restoring. This is also the case if the water came from pipes in your home. Restoration is close to impossible if the water comes from the sewer or the toilet plumbing. You can't do any carpet repair after flood if this is the case, especially by yourself.

Before attempting a carpet repair after a flood, first think about the other repairs that need to be done in the house. They might also affect the carpet and it would be a shame to ruin it again just after repairing it. Make sure that the source of water that produced the damage is completely eliminated and then proceed to repairing the carpet, once you are sure no more water is going to affect it. You need a wet vacuum that vacuums water safely. It is not enough to just go once over the carpet. Repeat this procedure a couple of times, until you are sure that no more water is in the carpet.

In most cases you will have to lift up the wet portion of the carpet and remove the under pad completely as drying would be very difficult otherwise.

Use air movers that will actually almost sit under the carpet creating air flow under carpeted area for fast drying which is key to saving your carpets.

For the next step of carpet restoration, go to your local hardware store to find a solution that has anti microbial properties to clean the carpets properly and mix it according to the manufacturers instructions for the proper effect for restoring the carpets to a new clean look again.
